The Petroleum Refining Society, CPS (China Petroleum Society) is established to cope with the specific features of the petroleum refining discipline and to meet the needs for carrying out academic activities.

CPS is a national academic body comprised of experts, scholars and technical personnel of research institutions, design institutions, production enterprises, and institutions of higher learning engaging in the development and application of petroleum refining and petroleum products, and is under the leadership and administration of China Petroleum Society.

The major duties of the Petroleum Refining Society are as follows:

I. Focusing on the development of petroleum refining science and technology, carry out trans-sectional, trans-regional and trans-industrial technical exchange to enliven academic ideas and promote the scientific and technologic development.

II. Launch international academic exchange, develop friendly communications and academic exchange with the overseas petroleum refining academic bodies and enterprises, introduce and disseminate advanced technology and experience.

III. Launch study and consultation on important issues relating to the petroleum refining development strategy, technical policies and economic development to provide expert recommendations for government decision making, while concurrently launching academic exchange, technical consultation and other relevant activities commissioned by the higher authorities.

IV. Organize the training courses related to petroleum refining to raise the professional level of massive petroleum refining technical personnel.

V. Organize the editing and publication of the meeting symposiums, books and periodicals relating to petroleum refining.

VI. Reflect the opinions and requirements of technical personnel working in the petroleum refining domain; praise, reward and recommend outstanding talents. A committee member system is exercised inside the Petroleum Refining Society, with the members consisting of multi-lateral and multi-level technical personnel from different departments, different specialties, different disciplines that are specialists and management officers having definite academic achievements with a fair academic attitude and a warm heart in supporting the work of the Petroleum Refining Society.

In order to effectively launch academic activities, seven specialized committees are formed under the Petroleum Refining Society:

I. The petroleum products application and development specialized committee;

II. The petroleum refining catalysts and zeolites specialized committee;

III. The petroleum refining processes and chemical engineering specialized committee;

IV. The petroleum and chemical equipment specialized committee;

V. The lubricating greases specialized committee;

VI. The specialized committee on analysis, specifications and standards for petroleum refining;

VII. The specialized committee on computer application.
